Field survey of Community Self-Recovery and the Impacts of Cyclone Winston in Nabuna village on Koro Island in Fiji

Sainimere Veitata (M1)
October 8-15, 2018

Sainimere Veitata (M1) conducted the questionnaire and interview survey in Nabuna village on Koro Island. Koro Island was the most affected island after Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016. The survey was to understand the extent of the damages in the villages and to investigate community self-recovery. The village had good support from their network of families outside the island, who were the first to respond immediately after the cyclone (within a week). Although, the community have been rebuilding, there is still some challenges seen as the slow supply of all the building materials for houses to the island. The main source of livelihood in the village is agriculture, and this recovered within this two years. There were 30 household interview conducted and key informant interviews with key persons (5 persons) in the village.
