アジア・太平洋木造建築文化と在来建築技術 / A field study on wooden culture and indigenous building techniques in Asia and Pacific region (2008 – )

アジア、南太平洋地域の風土建築を中心に、設計技法や建設技法など限られた資材や技術を最適に活用する在来建築技術に関するフィールド調査をおこなっている。特に設計技法としての身体尺適用に関する聞き取りと建物実測により単位寸法や適用方法を把握し、原初的建築のデザイン手法の体系的理解を試みる。
We are conducting field research on indigenous building technologies – design and construction methods – in Asian and South Pacific regions. In particular, the design methodology and its application by body-based units of measurement are explored in vernacular architecture. And the comprehensive analysis on them should be attempted based on the data collected in many different places.

風土建築の再建プロジェクト / A project on reconstructing vernacular architecture (2007 – )

市場経済の普及、外的価値の浸透など生活環境の変化に伴い消滅しつつある風土建築を、集落住民が主体となって再建するプロジェクトをマネジメントする。再建機会を通して、現代における風土建築の価値を集落住民と議論し維持継承のしくみを考える。また、「地域に根ざす建築」の原点である風土建築の建設プロセスに関わることで、環境デザインの方法を模索し今後の建築のあり方を探る。
We are working with local people to manage the reconstruction projects of their vernacular architecture disappearing in our time. The reconstruction project can make an opportunity to discuss with villagers, a value of local culture in modern contexts and a sustainable framework to maintain it. The projects can also give the lessons learnt for environmental design methods through involvement in the construction process.

西アフリカの土のイエ・草のイエフィールド調査 (ニジェール・フルベ、ザルマ、ブルキナファソ・カッセーナ) / A field study on earthen houses / grass houses in West Africa (Niger, Burkina Faso) (2009 – 2015)

総合地球環境学研究所のプロジェクト「砂漠化をめぐる風と人と土（2010-2017、代表：田中樹）」の一活動として、西アフリカ・サヘル地域であるニジェールとブルキナファソの住居調査をおこない、居住空間構築のための資源利用について、文化人類学者の方々と共同し生活文化や気候風土の視点から考察をおこなった。
The research project “Desertification and Livelihood in Semi-Arid Afro-Eurasia (2010-2017)” in Research Institute for Human and Nature organized the various activities of related research, and one of them is our research focusing on the application of local culture and local material for housing construction in Niger and Burkina Faso, cooperating with some anthropologists.
