Workshop on the Condition of Vernacular Houses and Rural Conservation Activities in Surmene, Trabzon (Turkey)

Workshop titled as “Existing Situation of Vernacular Houses in Karacakaya, Ustundal, Dirlik Areas and Rural Conservation Practices in Japan” was held in Surmene Kulaczade Ahmet Cultural Center (Sürmene Kulaçzade Ahmet Kültür Merkezi) on March 23, 2018 in Trabzon-Turkey. 
Workshop information was shared with various stakeholders and the event was carried out with the participation of Surmene District Governor, Major of Surmene District, Trabzon Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism, officers from District Directorate of National Education, head and members of local NGO (Doga-Tarih), professors from Karadeniz Technical University, head of several villages such as Karacakaya, Dirlik, Ustundal, Gültepe,etc. and some of local people. 
During the workshop, after explaining her studies in the rural areas of Karacakaya, Ustundal and Dirlik, Var introduced Japanese rural conservation practices. After that, an interactive discussion session was conducted focusing on the applicability of Japanese rural conservation activities to the villages in Surmene, Trabzon. The event was good opportunity to start a participatory process in Surmene, to discuss the nature of rural conservation activities in the future and to expand the network of researcher for upcoming activities.
