Studying on the conservation of rural vernacular houses in Trabzon, Elif (D2) had a short internship in Historic Villages of Ainokura to elaborate more about rural conservation processes in Japan. Mr. Konoo Harukazu from Culture and World Heritage Section of Nanto City Government Office (南砺市・ 文化・世界遺産課) was her research partner and Assoc.Prof.Kobayashi, Miyaji (D2), Sai (Research Student) were also accompanied her for the first two days of the internship.
Ainokura is a well conserved village of Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture which was inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage Site (1995) whereas first conservation activities were started way behind the UNESCO designation. By doing an internship in Ainokura Village, Elif aimed to research more about the initial conservation process, actions taken, difficulties faced / solutions implemented as well as lifestyle changes of local people since conservation and tourism activities have started in the settlement. For this purpose, interview with Mr.Konoo and local people, secondary data collection as well as personal observations were done.
